Rounders grabbed an important win in their 11th match of the season, beating Aboojo by 3 wickets in a tense low-scoring match at the Lakeside Oval in Entebbe. The win lifts Rounders to 5th place on the table, helping them move out of the relegation zone—for now.
Coming off a confident win against Tornado Bee at the same venue, Rounders looked to carry that energy into this game. Aboojo, however, had other plans early on. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, their openers Brian Asaba and Ivan Thawithemwira stormed to 26 runs in just the second over.
Baguma Joseph joined Asaba for another 26-run partnership, scoring a fast 31 while Asaba added 20. But once that pair fell, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled. Only Innocent Mwebaza reached double figures with 12, as Rounders kept the pressure on with tight bowling and sharp fielding. The wickets were well shared among Rounders’ bowlers, most of whom picked up two wickets each. Aboojo were bowled out for just 111 in 22.2 overs.
Chasing 112, Rounders had a shaky start. Their top order collapsed, and by the 10th over, the scoreboard read 46 for 6. What looked like an easy chase suddenly felt like a mountain.
That’s when Steven Wabwose and Siraj Nsubuga stepped up. Wabwose played a calm and composed innings, finishing unbeaten on 34 off 62 balls. Nsubuga chipped in with a crucial 10. Even after Siraj’s dismissal, Rounders kept their cool and crossed the line, winning with 3 wickets to spare.
Wabwose’s match-winning knock earned him the Player of the Match award. Aboojo’s Mathew Musinguzi took 5 wickets, and Baguma Joseph added 2, but their efforts weren’t enough to defend a small total.
Rounders now sit in 5th place with three matches left to play. If they can keep up this late-season form, their spot in Division One will be safe. Aboojo, now just one point ahead, will need to regroup fast.
