Jinja: A coordinated law enforcement operation has been launched in Jinja, Uganda, after 10 suspects reportedly escaped from custody at Central Police Station (CPS) Jinja Central in the early hours of Sunday, March 30, 2025.

One of the suspects, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, has been rearrested, while the remaining nine are still at large.

According to James Mubi, the Regional Police Spokesperson, the Kiira Regional Police Command has commenced a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the escape.

The escaped suspects were charged with minor offenses, including affray and public nuisance. Mubi stated that the recaptured suspect and those still at large will face an additional charge of escaping from lawful custody.

In a significant development, 12 police officers have been charged and detained in connection with the escape, underscoring the police’s commitment to holding accountable those responsible for undermining the criminal justice system. The identities of the detained officers have not been disclosed.

The Regional Police Commander, SSP Charles Nsaba, cautioned officers against negligence while on duty.

“The criminal justice system must not be sabotaged. Whoever is found culpable will be held accountable without fear or favor,” Nsaba emphasized.

“Command, control, and administration must be taken seriously at all police facilities,” he asserted.
