The Ministry of Education and Sports, led by Assistant Commissioner Ochira John Pakony, on Monday conducted a physical verification of assets at Busoga University. This verification included buildings, cars, chairs, and other items. The former executive and staff of the university handed over the keys to the Ministry, which will later pass them on to the Auditor General. After verification, the assets will be transferred to UPDF soldiers, who will soon begin renovations. The university is set to officially reopen in August.

The Commissioner has urged those who have worked with the university to remain patient and calm until the Public Service announces its process and conducts academic paper verification. Those who qualify will be given vacancies as university staff.

He further emphasized the importance of teamwork, encouraging the people of Busoga to collaborate for quicker and more efficient progress.

The government has already paid 15.2 billion UGX and has a balance of 7.2 billion UGX, which is earmarked for the assets and liabilities of the former Busoga University.

Speaking to Members of Parliament, Hon. Milton Muwuma (Kigulu South) congratulated the Government of Uganda for revitalizing Busoga University. He also praised the additional development brought to the region. He encouraged parents and students to engage with the university, noting that studying locally will help reduce the high costs of living away from home.

Edward Gamuwa, the former Chairperson of the Board of Governors at Busoga University, called on former staff members to cooperate with the government and allow time for verification. He also made a humble request to the government to ensure that former staff members are given the opportunity to serve again in this new phase, as outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding with the government.

Kayemba Patrick, a member of the Board at Busoga University and a key figure in the Busoga Consortium that initiated the project, expressed gratitude to the government for including Busoga in their development plans. He also urged the community to contribute materials like bricks, sand, and manpower to support the project, rather than relying on supplies from outside the region. This, he believes, will foster strong cooperation between the university and the local community.

Other dignitaries who attended the event included the RDC of Iganga, Wadera Sadara, his deputy, the Chairman of LCV Iganga, Gabula Ezra, former staff members of Busoga University, and well-wishers.
