Jinja: Juma Mukulu, a 65-year-old man, is fearing arrest after he allegedly lured and defiled his neighbour’s nine-years-old juvenile. He purportedly promised the minor that he would financially support her in the politics of Jinja in the near future.

Mukulu is a resident of Nakabaale village, Butagaya sub county, Jinja district. His ill practices were established by the mother of the young girl after she became suspicious of her daughter’s movements.

It is said that the mother embarked on interrogations where the minor could not keep the secret and narrated the sad ordeal. The parent immediately reported the case to Butagaya police station in Jinja district that sparkled off investigations.

SP James Mubi, Kiira region police mouse piece, said the victim has been medically examined, and the medical report supports the allegation levelled against Mukulu. Police have intensified search against Mukulu.

“We would like to assure the people of Butagaya sub county that the suspect will soon be arrested and prosecuted on charges of aggravated defilement and getting involved in null and void or prohibited marriage, in this case marriage with a minor,” Mubi told Busoga Today on Thursday.

According to Mubi, preliminary information indicates that some family members on both sides of the accused person and the victim concealed the information and having been unlawfully engaged in settling the issues.

“We have been informed that the two families have been conducting engagements on this unlawful matter but when they developed disagreement with sharing the undisclosed sum of money, that is when they opted to report the case to police,” Mubi added.

He said that all those involved in the alleged negotiations will be arrested and charged with interfering with the administration of justice and conspiracy to commit a felony among others. Police caution parents and guardians to desist from settling cases of capital nature
