The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers – Africa took place on Thursday, revealing the group stages for the upcoming tournament. Uganda Cranes has been placed in Group G, alongside Algeria, Guinea, Mozambique, Botswana, and Somalia.

In this round-robin format, the teams will face each other in a home and away fixture. The group winner will secure automatic qualification to the FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, the four best second-placed teams across all nine groups will have a chance to compete in a play-off stage for a shot at qualification.

For Uganda Cranes, the matches against Algeria will bring back memories of the ongoing AFCON Qualifiers in Group F, where Algeria emerged victorious in both encounters. The Cranes will be eager to put up a strong performance and secure positive results against their formidable opponents.

The qualifying matches are scheduled to take place over ten matchdays spread across the next two years.

    The specific dates are as follows: November 13-21, 2023; June 3-11, 2024; March 17-25, 2025; September 1-9, 2025; October 6-14, 2025; and November 10-18, 2025 for the play-offs.

It’s an exciting time for Ugandan football, as the national team sets its sights on the ultimate goal of securing a spot in the prestigious FIFA World Cup, hoping for success in Group G and beyond.
